Nářečí českých strnadů
A citizen science project studying birdsong
The ‘Dialects of Czech Buntings’ project, organised by the Department of Ecology at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, and the Czech Ornithological Society, aims to involve the general public in recording the song of the common bunting across the Czech Republic in order to study the distribution and stability of bird dialects. The recordings obtained will be used for scientific research, and the results will also serve to raise awareness of bird conservation in the agricultural landscape. This is a continuation of the successful project from 2011–2016.
The mapy.cz API is used to visualise results (the distribution of recordings and dialects across the Czech Republic) on the project’s website and in the mobile app, and to retrieve information about the origin of recordings that will be uploaded via the web interface.
