Defunct villages and buildings in the Czech Republic
The ‘Vanished Villages’ project focuses on mapping and documenting vanished villages, hamlets, isolated settlements and historic buildings within the Czech Republic. It serves to preserve historical awareness and offers both experts and the general public a comprehensive database of locations, supplemented by historical information, coordinates, and period and contemporary photographs.
We use the Mapy.cz API on our website to display an interactive map showing the exact locations of defunct villages and buildings. We chose this API because of the high accuracy and level of detail of the map data for the Czech Republic, the excellent visual presentation and the fast rendering of markers. We use it to display map data and mark individual historical sites.
